Coming off an extended time off, the Bragg Middle School boys 8th grade basketball team looked out of sync early and had trouble with Homewood’s press. This lead to a strong first period of easy layups and 3 point shots by Homewood as they took advantage of several turnovers by the Bragg Rockets.
Bragg battled back from a large deficit in the second period and went into halftime down by only 10 points.
Homewood made adjustments at the half and maintained a comfortable lead throughout the second half, but Gardendale showed grit and would not go away quietly. A hot hand by Connor Ma, with 5 points within a 15 second span cut the lead to just 6 with 1:30 left in the game.
The Rockets could not further close the gap and ended the game 9 points down with a score of Homewood 48 and Gardendale 39.
Gardendale will take what they learned in a tough road loss with them to a home game next Tuesday, January 11th against Clay.
