Lady Rockets Finish 2nd in Sardis Tournament on Saturday

The Gardendale Varsity Softball team started bracket play today in the Sardis Tournament at Sand Mountain Park needing 3 wins to make it to the championship game and a chance to win the prestigious tournament.

In a tour de force of a day, the Lady Rockets won their matchups against Ardmore, Albertville and Buckhorn before running out of steam in the championship game against Central Phoenix City.

Game 1 – Lady Rockets Defeat Ardmore 4-1

Sophie Gant pitched 6 innings, allowing only 3 hits and 1 run.

Ardmore led Gardendale 1-0 through 4 innings, but a big 4 run inning in the 5th secured the win for the Lady Rockets.

Catey Thomas, who was on fire all day long, led the Rockets going 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

Game 2 – Gardendale beats Albertville Aggies 9-5

Natalie Snow pitched 5 innings, allowing 10 hits and 5 runs.

Miya Covington, Catey Thomas, Sophie Gant and Kenley Vaughn all had multiple hits for the Lady Rockets.

Gant went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs to lead Gardendale.

Game 3 – Gardendale edges Buckhorn 4-3

Sophie Gant threw the first 4 innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs. Natalie Snow came in on relief in an inning of work.

Miya Covington, Lillie Piersol, Catey Thomas, Sophie Gant and Allie Busbee all had hits, and Thomas continued her great day at the plate going 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

Championship Game – Central Phoenix City Downs Gardendale 12-2

Reagan Howard started for the Lady Rockets in just over an inning of work, allowing 8 hits and 7 runs. Natalie Snow threw 3 innings , allowing 6 hits and 5 runs with 4 strikeouts.

Central Phoenix City gave up only 2 total hits to the Lady Rockets, those came off the bats of Catey Thomas and Sophie Gant. Kenley Vaughn added an RBI.

Gardendale ends the Sardis Tournament as the runner-up. They played 4 games on Saturday and won 3 of 4.
