Jody Jones: Make Sure Your Roof is Properly Ventilated in the Summer Heat

I know I should be concerned about my roof when storms roll through, but what about high heat like we have had this summer?

Heat is a major factor in the life of your roof. Shingles are designed to combat against the heat as long as your roof is ventilated properly. Without proper ventilation, the adhesive and moisture made into the shingle will break down sooner rather than later. The result of the breakdown causes the asphalt granules to be released and the fiberglass will start to be exposed on the matting.

So, should you worry about what the hot temperatures are doing to your roof? Well, yes and no.

If you’re sure that your roof has been ventilated properly, then you shouldn’t worry. However, if you feel like there is not much ventilation then you may need to have a professional take a look for your peace of mind. Find a good, reputable roofing company that will come and provide you with a detailed and free roof inspection.
