The Gardendale News Partners With GHS and Bragg Middle

The Gardendale News is proud to announce our new partnership with Gardendale High School and Bragg Middle School to promote writing and journalism by providing a platform for students at both schools to write for your local newspaper.

It’s a testament to forward thinking principals in Shelton Dukes at GHS and Brad Robertson at Bragg who were both immediately committed to the academic and creative opportunities that writing for the local paper will afford their students.

After the school year is up and running, The Gardendale News will increase the number of pages in each issue of the newspaper and devote one full page for student writing to each school in each issue under the direction of the wonderful teachers at each school.

Teachers at GHS and Bragg will be involved in this project and act as point persons, and we will highlight them as well moving forward.

This type of partnership between local schools and our local newspaper is what true local, community journalism is all about.

I expect wonderful articles and insight as to student life, as well as the student view of local clubs, sports, and a myriad of other issues.

This is great for the schools, our readers and our newspaper but, much more importantly, it is a wonderful opportunity for our local students to develop a passion for the written word and creative thinking and reasoning. To also get a “byline” in the local paper is a neat bonus!

I expect great things from our local students during this project. I can’t wait to get started!
