The Gardendale Varsity Girls Softball Team began play this morning at Veterans Park in Alabaster at the Thompson Presidents Day Tournament.
The Rockets beat Hueytown 5-1 with 6 hits in 22 at-bats.
Sophie Gant tossed 5 innings for Gardendale, giving up 6 hits and 1 run. Gant walked 1 and struck out 6 Hueytown batters. Gant threw 78 strikes in getting the win.
Miya Covington, Catey Thomas, Sophie Gant and Anna Valentine all had a hit for the Rockets with Nattie Miles going 2 for 2.
Gardendale has two more games to play today. Next up at 2pm against Huntsville and 3:30pm against Calera.
The girls junior varsity also plays today at 2pm against Hillcrest and 5pm against Oak Mountain.
