Rockets Earn #1 Seed After Pool Play at Smith Lake Classic

Friday March 10th.
Game 1 of Pool Play
Gardendale vs. Oak Grove

A big 6 run 2nd inning cemented the 10-4 victory for Gardendale over Oak Grove in the first game of pool play at the Smith Lake Classic.

After the big 6 run 2nd inning, Gardendale added 4 more runs in the 4th. Oak Grove went scoreless until having a big 3rd inning bringing home their only 4 runs of the game.

Gardendale had 3 hits. Oak Grove with 6 hits.

Nattie Miles, Sophie Gant and Catey Thomas had hits for the Rockets. Catey led Gardendale with 2 RBIs.

Norman started for the Rockets and faced 10 batters, giving up 5 hits and 4 earned runs. Bailey Snow closed it out and gave up 1 hit and added 2 strikeouts.

Saturday March 11th.
Game 2 of Pool Play
Gardendale vs. Lawrence County Red Devils

The Rockets got off to a solid start against the Red Devils, scoring 5 runs in the first inning and holding off Lawrence County to win 8-6 in 5 innings.

Both teams had 9 hits each in the game and no errors.

Miya Covington, Kenley Vaughn and Kara Jasper each had a hit for Gardendale. Sophie Gant, Catey Thomas and Ella Neal each went 2 for 3.

Gant pitched the complete game, giving up 9 hits and 6 earned runs with 5 strikeouts.

Saturday March 11th.
Game 3 of Pool Play
Gardendale vs. Cordova Blue Devils

Gardendale had 2 big innings in the 2nd and 4th, scoring 10 of their 12 runs in a route of the Blue Devils 12-2.

The Rockets totaled 11 hits in the game with no errors. Cordova managed 2 runs with 2 errors.

Covington, Vaughn, Thomas, Cheyenne Simpson, Anna Valentine and Miles each had a hit for Gardendale.

Lillie Piersol went 2 for 3 and Gant led the Rockets going 3 for 3.

Bailey Snow tossed the complete game. She threw 54 strikes in only giving up 4 hits and 2 earned runs. Snow added 2 strikeouts.

Gardendale ends Pool Play and now moves forward to Bracket Play as a #1 seed.

Bracket play should begin today at 4:30pm at the Smith Lake Classic.
