Prep softball: Gardendale Shining Down on the Gulf

The Gardendale Varsity Lady Rockets are down at the Gulf Coast Classic this week and have moved through pool play undefeated with 3 wins and a tie. The bats have been popping for the Rockets as they have scored 31 runs in the 4 game stretch.

Tuesday, March 27th.
Gardendale vs. Sylvania Rams.
Win 7-0.

The Rockets held a 1-o lead on the Rams through 3 innings, but Gardendale posted a big 5 run 4th inning and added 1 run in the 5th and final inning as they downed the Rams 7-0.

Gardendale had 10 hits and no errors. Sylvania managed just 2 hits and no runs.

Miya Covington, Nattie Miles, Sophie Gant, Ella Neal, Kenley Vaughn and Maddy Tucker each had a hit for the Rockets and Anna Valentine and Lillie Piersol both went 2 for 3.

Gant got the complete game for Gardendale and allowed just 2 hits and a shutout.

Tuesday, March 27th.
Gardendale vs. Colbert County Indians.
Win 9-0.

Consistency was key for Gardendale as they put up 2 or more runs in each of the first 4 innings. The Rockets downed the Indians 9-0 in 5 innings.

Gardendale had 12 hits and no errors. Colbert County had just 2 hits and 2 errors.

Covington, Kendall Norman, Cheyenne Simpson, Valentine and Mary Grace Sizemore each had a hit. Nattie Miles went 3 for 4, Gant 2 for 3 and Kara Jasper went 2 for 3 to lead the Rockets.

Bailey Snow never left the circle for the Rockets and picked up the win allowing just 2 hits and getting the shutout.

Tuesday, March 27th.
Gardendale vs. Kaneland.
Win 11-3.

Sophie Gant gave Gardendale a good start with a 3 run shot in the 1st inning. Gardendale followed that up with a big 7 run 2nd inning on their way to beating Kaneland 11-3.

Gardendale had 8 hits and 3 errors. Kaneland had just 3 hits and 4 errors.

Covington, Miles and Piersol each had a hit. Gant went 2 for 2 and Vaughn went 3 for 3 to lead Gardendale.

Norman got the win for the Rockets. She pitched 4 innings and allowed just 3 runs (1 earned) and 3 hits.

Wednesday, March 28th.
Gardendale vs. Dothan Wolves
Tie 4-4.

A big 4 run 2nd inning for the Lady Wolves was key to this game ending in a tie through 5 innings.

Gardendale had 7 hits and 1 error. Dothan had 4 hits and 1 error.

Covington, Gant, Catey Thomas, Neal, Jasper, Valentine and Piersol each had a hit in the game.

Gant started in the circle for the Rockets and pitched 4 innings while allowing 4 hits and 4 runs (none earned).

Snow closed the game out allowing no hits and no runs in an innings worth of work.

The Rockets take the remainder of Tuesday off and get ready to enter single elimination bracket play on Wednesday.
