Morris Town Council to Fill Vacant Seat

The Morris Town Council is set to fill a vacancy on the Council with the resignation of Allen Sanders who occupied the Place 2 seat.

Sanders left the Council when he moved out of Morris and could no longer maintain his elected position.

As required, the Town Council declared the position as vacant at the last Council meeting and took the additional, though not required, step of posting the vacancy to Morris residents and giving them the opportunity to express interest and interview for the open seat.

Residents have until July 21st at 11am to submit a letter of interest to Morris Town Hall and will be given 5 minutes at the July 25th Council meeting to impress upon the sitting Council members as to why they should be appointed to fill the vacancy. The Council has the authority, by majority vote, to decide who fills the open position for the remaining term.

According to the Town of Morris, as long as someone has been a resident of Morris for the last 90 days, they are qualified to submit a letter of interest for the seat.

The appointed councilor will serve until the next municipal election in 2025 and would then need to stand for election to continue to serve.
