City Approves Bid to Add Dedicated Turn Lane to Alleviate Congestion

With the new Racetrac’s traffic feeding into Kerr Drive and a new development that will house Dunkin Donuts, Chicken Salad Chick and Jersey Mike’s opening soon along the road as well, traffic and congestion concerns have been an issue at the intersection of Kerr Dr. and Fieldstown Rd.

At their September 5th meeting, the Gardendale City Council approved Resolution 2023-129 giving Mayor Stan Hogeland authority to accept the bid from Southeastern Sealcoating for $70,421.70. to widen Kerr Dr. and create a dedicated turn lane onto Fieldstown Rd.

Mayor Hogeland told the Herald that adding a dedicated turn lane “will help clear the intersection more quickly. It is already a busy intersection with those exiting Racetrac, but it will soon be even busier due to the new strip center.”

The Racetrac and the new restaurants in the new development will draw people coming off I-65 and Hogeland expressed that the City’s intent “is to clear quickly those returning to the interstate.”

The city hopes to have the new road work completed within 90 days.
